In 2020, Marvel’s Black Widow movie was released on Disney+ instead of in theaters due to the pandemic. Scarlett Johansson, who played the lead role, sued Disney for breach of contract as she was promised that the movie would have a theatrical release. In an interview with Variety, Johansson shared how the lawsuit affected her, but also how she remains a Disney Adult despite the legal battle. She expressed disappointment over the situation, especially when Disney bragged about the $60 million generated from Black Widow’s Disney+ premiere. However, Johansson noted that she was pregnant during the lawsuit, which served as a wonderful distraction for her. Despite the difficult circumstance, she received support instead of criticism. Strangers even commended her for standing up for herself whenever she went out.

Johansson expressed her continued admiration for Disney, even after the legal dispute they had. She shared that her love for the company and its films started when she was a child, and her family used to have annual passes to Disney World. She particularly enjoyed the animated films of her time such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Lion King, which had incredible soundtracks. She is excited about the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid and plans to pre-buy tickets. Although Natasha Romanoff’s story in the MCU has come to an end, Johansson is still working with Disney. She will be starring in the upcoming Tower of Terror film, directed by Taika Waititi. While she feels sad about the end of her Marvel journey, she takes pride in the dignity of Natasha’s legacy.
