She’s made so secret about her support for Obama over the years and has performed to support him during his campaign trail on a number of occasions.

And on Saturday Katy Perry fulfilled her patriotic duty once again as she headlined the Kids’ Inaugural Concert in Washington.

Dressed in a star spangled banner themed 50’s Pin-up style costume, the singer rocked the stage in front of the famous First Family in honour of the children of military families nationwide.

Hosted by the First Lady Michelle Obama for the second inauguration of President Barack Obama Katy made sure she put on a show no one would forget in a long time.

The 28-year-old took to the stage in what looked like a white bodice with a blue starred skirt, before she stripped it off to reveal a pair of red and white striped H๏τ pants below.

While her hair was styled in neat curls, she wore a bandana around her neck.

The singer even accessorised her Uncle Sam style outfit with a matching microphone featuring stars and stripes.

As Katy, who is dating John Mayer, set the stage alight with her bright and bubbly pop music, America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon oversaw the evening.

The brunette beauty performed Teenage Dream, Part of Me, Wide Awake and Firework, which she sang in front of a pH๏τo montage of the President with children.

With Michelle Obama and the Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden sat front row, Usher also took to the stage to entertain them.

Following a pep talk about the importance of youth activism, as well as the value of the sacrifices made by military children, he gave a typically energetic performance.

Usher wasn’t the only one to give some words of wisdom; The Wanted appeared via video link as did the stars from Disney Channel’s Shake It Up and Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush, as well as chat show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Other stars to grace the stage included Glee cast members Darren Criss, Naya Rivera and Amber Riley.

Amber performed a moving rendition of Christina Aguilera’s Beautiful which no doubt struck a chord with many in attendance.

Michelle, who recently debuted her new fringe, took to the stage near the end of the show to give her thanks.

She said: ‘You see, when we said we wanted to host a concert to honor our military kids, let me tell you, everyone wanted to be here. Usher wanted to be here,

‘Katy Perry wanted to be here. Nick Cannon, the folks from Glee, and all the other amazing performers — they wanted to be here, too. And let me tell you, they’re not here for me.

‘They’re not here for Dr. Biden. They are here for all of you. Because they know the kind of sacrifices that you all make every single day.’

The National Day of Service and the night’s star-studded event set the stage for a weekend of festivities to mark the beginning of Mr Obama’s second term in office.

Freshly built inaugural stands at the Capitol gleamed white in the sun, and hundreds of chairs for special guests were set out on the lawn that spills down toward the National Mall as the president and vice president began their inauguration weekend.

Officials estimated that as many as 800,000 people will attend Monday’s public ceremonies. That’s more than live in the city, if far fewer than the 1.8 million who were at Obama’s first inauguration in 2009.

Because the date for inauguration set in the Consтιтution, January 20, falls on a Sunday this year, Obama and Biden were to be sworn in for second terms in separate, private ceremonies on Sunday.
