The photographer, hailing from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, has been capturing stunning shots for over three decades. His portfolio includes a diverse range of subjects, from nude photography and fashion to famous faces. After completing his studies at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 1980, he honed his skills under the tutelage of the legendary Helmut Newton, who encouraged him to pursue his passion for photography in Milan. It was here that he developed his signature style, which quickly gained recognition from esteemed Italian publications like Pic Italiana, Lei, Linea Italiana, Madame Figaro, and French Elle. Following this, he made his way to Los Angeles where his talent was put to use photographing album covers for big names like Madonna. It wasn’t long after that he moved to New York City, where he continued to showcase his unique style and skillset in well-known publications like Harper’s Bazaar, Interview Magazine, and The New York Times Magazine. Additionally, he worked on advertising campaigns for top brands such as Max Factor, DeBeers Diamonds, and Elizabeth Arden, earning himself recognition and awards for his innovative use of lighting, shadows, angles, and prints.

Holz took advantage of his career in advertising and editorial to explore his artistic passions. He captured a diverse range of nude photographs, often pairing them with industrial objects and bones to create visually stunning compositions. As he progressed in his career, he expanded his portfolio to include celebrity portraits for high-profile clients like Vanity Fair and Entertainment Weekly, shooting A-list stars such as Beyonce, Angelina Jolie, and Jack Nicholson. In addition, Holz created movie posters and won a Grammy Award for his album cover for Suzanne Vega’s “Days of Open Hand.” His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums all over the world, including major cities like Budapest, Paris, Tokyo, and Vienna. Holz’s “Original Sin” collection of platinum prints, sponsored by Tres Generaciones Tequila, was showcased in exhibitions across the US, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston. Some of his works are permanently displayed at the International Museum of Photography at the George Eastman House in Rochester, NY, and the Centro Cultural/Arte Contemporaneo in Mexico City. Today, Holz is represented by top-notch galleries such as Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles and Staley Wise Gallery in New York.
