Katy Perry mime blunder at French awards gig prompted X Factor fiasco

SCREECHING her way through the X Factor live final won’t exactly have sent people clamouring for tickets to see Katy Perry.

But finally there’s an explanation for her much-derided patchy performance – and her, er, brave decision to refuse the kind offer of Autotune.

Things got so awkward that less than a minute into the song, the host jumped on stage and gestured at her to stop.

He said: “If you don’t mind, we can restart. We had a little problem with the sound. I’m sorry to stop all your energy.”

While the Frenchman was busy apologising, Katy was putting down her microphone.

Unfortunately, as she did so, the singing continued. The 29-year-old immediately brought the microphone back up to her mouth to try to smooth things over.

But it got even more cringeworthy when Roar started for a second time and she came in on cue and definitely singing live.

However, she was now both slightly out of tune as well as out of sync. Ouch.

Last night as the footage leaked, the organisers of the Cannes show issued a hasty statement apologising for the singer’s faux pas.

It read: “Katy Perry sang live during the NRJ Music Awards on Saturday night but unfortunately a bad soundtrack was accidentally launched, taking over the live performance of Katy at the beginning.

“TF1 and NRJ present their apologies to Katy Perry … for this technical problem beyond our control.”

An insider revealed: “Katy was absolutely mortified at the time and didn’t want the same thing happening again 24 hours later – this is why she sang live at X Factor.”

The source added: “Happily she’s over it now.”

Yep, disaster averted – sort of.
